I completed my first quilt all on my own!  I’m so pleased with myself.  It was a birthday present for my dear friend Melissa.  She studied in India last year and brought me back stacks and stacks of sari remnants in the most vibrant, gorgeous colors.  I always thought those fabrics would make a perfect Stacked Coins Quilt from Last-Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts and I was right.

The colors are so vibrant and I’m really liking the look of all solids.  But, I had to do something fun for the back so I chose a Kaffe Fassett print.  (Side note…I just learned I have been pronouncing his name incorrectly.  I always pronounced it like “coffee” but while buying the backing I learned from the shop owner that he pronounces it Kafe – one syllable.  Huh).  What do you think?

The colors are all there, and really complements the simplicity of the pattern.  I am quite pleased and liked the contrast so much that I used that same print for the binding.

The quilt was very well received and I’m quite proud of myself for doing it all on my own.  Ordinarily my mom has had to finish every other quilt I have tried to make.  More to come, I’m sure!
